I’m Brian Feeny. I work as a Principal AI/ML Architect at AWS and teach AI, machine learning, data science, and NLP at Cornell via the eCornell program.

My own current focus is AI safety and alignment, and responsible AI. I believe it is the most important problem facing the world today. We are building systems whose capabilities are advancing faster than our ability to specify what we actually want from them, to verify that we got it, or to understand why they do what they do — and we are handing them consequential decisions in the meantime. Getting this right isn’t a constraint on the technology. It’s the condition for any of it being worth having.

This blog is where I think out loud — about AI and ML, about the craft of building systems that actually work, and about whatever else has my attention that week.
